The Old Courthouse on the Square in downtown Decatur stands where two Indian trails once crossed. Today, the courthouse square is a community-gathering place for a full year of free events including Concerts on the Square, the Oakhurst Arts and Music Festival, the Decatur Beer Festival, an Easter Egg Hunt and the Decatur Beach Party -- complete with 60 tons of sand, a 6-foot pink flamingo and live music.

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) offers bus service and rapid rail transportation through DeKalb and Fulton Counties. Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport has the largest passenger terminal complex in the world. Private pilots will also appreciate nearby DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. DeKalb is easily accessible from four major interstates: I-85, I-20, I-75 and I-285.

The city has 56.5 acres of parks and DeKalb’s Parks and Recreation Department maintains and operates over 3,700 acres of public use land. It includes golf courses, nature trails and preserves, tennis courts, picnic facilities, fishing lakes, athletic fields, swimming pools and playgrounds. Sugar Creek Golf Course, an 18-hole championship golf course in southeast Atlanta, has one of Atlanta’s largest lighted driving ranges with grass teeing areas and a large practice green.

The M.A.K. Local Historic District is named for three streets included in Decatur’s first locally designated historic district. The neighborhood is Decatur’s first residential subdivision. The neighborhood provides an excellent example of Craftsman Style homes that were popular during the first 30 years of the 1900s. DeKalb County is home to some of the Southeast’s greatest attractions including Stone Mountain Park, a themed attraction developed around the largest exposed piece of granite in the world. The park’s 3,200 acres are a perfect family outing.
